Overview

You should have a strict backup schedule in place to ensure minimal loss of data in the event of a disaster such as Hardware failure, power surges etc. It is recommended that an offsite storage of backups is used as an extra precaution. Backups can only be performed when no other users are logged in.

How to use Backup

  • Select Utilities Tab
  • Select Backup

The backup will automatically start unless other users are logged in. The backup file will be saved on the server at c:\erp software\backup unless an alternative location has been nominated in [[Preferences>Utilities]]

Alternative Methods

There are some alternative ways to perform backups.

  • See "Backup on Last Person Exit"<LinkId=240>

From Programs Menu

  • Go to the Windows Programs menu on the server
  • Select ERP Software
  • Select ERP Service Menu
  • Select Backup tab
  • Select the Name of the database you wish to back up from the drop down list
  • Select Backup

Windows Permissions

Why are the windows permission important for this?

The folder that you are saving to when using the option to "Specify Backup Destination" cannot have any windows security agains't it, it must be set to Full access for all, otherwise when ERP tries to write the backup to this location windows, will block it and no backup will be created.

Often you will see this issue when the backup is un-able to complete. Windows has locked it out from completing the file creation.
