Overview
A manufactured product is an Inventory Item that is made up of other products and has a Bill of Materials attached. The Bill of materials includes the component products and any processes that are required to manufacture the product. A manufactured item can be a simple build requiring only a list of component parts and quantities, a variable build allowing variations to the component parts (eg.colour etc) to be selected or a build requiring scheduling of time, processes and resources.
Before creating a Manufactured Product you must create any Processes and Resources required in Manufacturing
NB. Your Bill of Materials should not include labour or other overheads otherwise these will be double counted in your P&L.
How to Create a Manufactured Product
- Create an Inventory Item
- Click on the Manufacture tab in the product form. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to create a Bill of Materials
- The first line of the Bill of Materials will contain the name of the product
- Right Click the left hand column and select Add Branch. Double Click this branch to add a product from the product list.
- Repeat this step for each component product
- For a Simple Build Group without process steps Save now.
For a Variable Build Group (with some variable components eg. colour choice)
- Select Input Type in the line containing the variable component
- Select Option from the Input Type drop down
- In the Options column select the variable from the drop shown
- When your product tree is complete, SAVE
For a Manufactured Item where scheduled process steps are integral to the end product (eg. Welding, Assembly, Painting etc)
- Add one or more processes to the top line and to any other lines where a separate process needs to be included in the
production schedule
- For each process you will need to allocate an amount of time to be sceduled as well as setup and breakdown times.
This allows the scheduler to properly allocate the amount of time to manufacture the product
- A sequence number is automatically assigned to each process. To change the sequence, change the sequence number
- SAVE the product
Note - a component part can NOT have sub parts, only non-part nodes can have parts as children. If you want to include a part in the Bill of Materials, that part can still have its own tree and the Production Parts list will alert you if more need to be built for stock.
