Overview

Some Products can be bought and sold in various units of measure. Example: You may purchase a product by the carton. Each carton may contain packs of six bottles. When selling the product you may offer the option of selling individual bottles, Packs of 6 bottles or entire Cartons. Using Units of Measure means that a user does not need to know the quantity of a carton or pack, they simply sell 1 carton etc.

When using Units of Measure, the base default unit of measure is a "UNIT" and everything else is a multiple of this base unit.

How to Use Units of Measure

  • Units of Measure (UOM) can be created from the Quantity tab within the product or from the Inventory Drop Down

menu, Inventory/Units of Measure, at the top of the page.

  • Enter the name of the UOM
  • Select the product to be linked to the UOM from the drop down list
  • Select the Unit Multiplier (How many Units in the UOM. eg. Our first UOM may be Bottle. The

Unit Multiplier would be 1 of Unit (default). The next UOM may be Pack - The Unit Multiplier would be 6 of either Unit or Bottle.

NB. The multiplier can only be of a UOM with a multiplier of 1 Unit. The next UOM is Carton - it must have a multiplier of 24 of either Bottle or Unit. It cannot be a multiple of Pack.

  • One UOM should be ticked as Sales Default - this is the default UOM used to populate sales orders, invoices etc.
  • One UOM should be ticked as the Purchase Default
